Marquees on Broadway will honor "Sopranos" star James Gandolfini, who died last Wednesday at age 51 of cardiac arrest, by dimming their lights on Wednesday.
In addition to Gandolfini's television and film work, he also appeared in a number of Broadway productions, including 1992's "A Streetcar Named Desire" and 2009's "God of Carnage," which earned him a Tony nomination.
Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of the Broadway League, called Gandolfini a "consummate actor," while announcing the tribute.
"James Gandolfini was a consummate actor who brought individuality to each role and inspired a true connection with the audience," St. Martin said. "Whether on screen or on a Broadway stage, he made every role believable and seemingly effortless. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, and certainly to all of his fans who felt as if they knew his characters."
Funeral services for Gandolfini will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan. The Gandolfini family has requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that Gandolfini "was very passionate about and supported in countless ways," in lieu of flowers.
