James Gandolfini is poised to once again explore the criminal element for HBO.
The cable network has given a pilot order to an adaptation of the BBC series "Criminal Justice," which former "The Sopranos" actor Gandolfini is set to star in. Gandolfini will also serve as an executive producer on the pilot, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Described as "a crime drama set in New York," the pilot is scheduled to film there in the fall.
Peter Moffat, who wrote the BBC series — which ran two seasons from 2008 to 2009 — will also serve as an executive producer.

"Schindler's List" writer Steven Zaillian will co-write and direct the project, as well as executive-produce. Richard Price ("The Wire," "NYC 22") will also write and executive-produce.
The pilot will be produced by HBO in association with BBC Worldwide Productions.
Gandolfini has a number of irons in the fire with HBO, including an adaptation of the Nicholas Johnson memoir "Big Dead Place," about working for the U.S. Antarctic Program; and a project based on the Robert Egan/Kurt Pitzer book "Eating With the Enemy: How I Waged Peace With North Korea From My BBQ Shack in Hackensack."
