Jeffrey Katzenberg Joins Zynga’s Board of Directors

DreamWorks Animation CEO will join forces with Zygna, which created the Facebook games FarmVille and Mafia Wars

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has joined the board of directors of FarmVille and Mafia Wars creator Zynga, the company announced Monday.

Mark Pincus, Zynga's founder, CEO and chief product officer, made the announcement on his company's blog, joking that Katzenberg was already busy lobbying Jack Black and Mike Meyers to join the board. (Read the announcement below.)

For his part, Katzenberg lauded Zynga as an innovative and entertaining company. “I think Mark has an incredible vision for the future of this company and I couldn’t be more excited to become a part of it,” he said.

Here's Pincus's announcement:

"What do Shrek and FarmVille have in common (besides donkeys and onions)?
Today we’re incredibly excited to announce that Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation, has joined Zynga’s Board of Directors. Jeffrey and I have been friends for some time, and I knew he’d be a great fit for the board after he suggested that the blockbuster of 2011 could be ShrekVille.

"I see a lot of similarities between DreamWorks Animation and Zynga, far beyond our love of animals. DreamWorks Animation is a revolutionary technology company, a recognized consumer brand, and at its core, a media company. It’s easy to see the value that Jeffrey will add to Zynga as we grow and look for more ways to delight our players. In fact, he’s immediately sprung into action with his first assignment: finding our seventh board member. I hear that both Jack Black and Mike Myers are incredibly interested.

"I and everyone here at Zynga would like to extend a warm welcome to Jeffrey. I’m looking forward to his guidance, his leadership, and about 1,500 tickets to the opening night of Kung Fu Panda 2."

We're assured that the CEO was kidding about Jack Black and Mike Myers.
