A Hater of the ‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake? An Excited Jennifer Grey Tweets to Disagree (Video)

Despite the many old-school fans who revile the remake, the original “Baby” is looking forward to the Kenny Ortega-directed film

Thousands have turned to Twitter and Lionsgate's "Dirty Dancing" Facebook page to register disappointment about the film's upcoming Kenny Ortega-directed remake.

Not Jennifer Grey.

The recent "Dancing With the Stars" contestant, who starred as Baby in the 1987 film alongside Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle, seems downright excited.

On Kenny Ortega, who was choreographer of the original film, she tweeted:

"I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake."

She even bubbled to the Wall Street Journal: “I’m so excited about this news and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”

The original film earned $214 million worldwide, creating a recognizable late '80s icon of songs and phrases, including the famous line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!"

Since its release, “Dancing” has sold more than 10 million DVD copies and spawned a mostly unsuccessful 2004 sequel, "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights," that attempted to give the first film’s formula a Latin twist.

“Blown away by all of the love expressed for #DirtyDancing,” Grey tweeted late Tuesday night. “Makes me want to see it again. So grateful to have been a part of it.”
