Jessica Chastain Joins Guillermo del Toro Haunted House Thriller

Benedict Cumberbatch, Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam also starring in "Crimson Peak"

Jessica Chastain has joined Guillermo del Toro's upcoming haunted house thriller "Crimson Peak," Legendary Pictures said Friday.

The Oscar-nominee rounds out a top-shelf cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam.

Chastain has made a name for herself as a darling of indie films like "Take Shelter" and "Tree of Life," but has also proved her box office bona fides in hits like "Mama," which del Toro produced, and "Zero Dark Thirty," which grossed more than $100 million worldwide despite its controversial depictions of torture.

Cumberbatch is beloved by fans of the BBC series "Sherlock" for his wry take on the famous sleuth. He is poised to have his biggest screen role to date, playing the villain in this summer's "Star Trek Into Darkness."

As for Stone, her stock is at a premium after her success in "The Amazing Spider-Man" and star turn in "Easy A." She next appears "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," which is currently shooting in New York.

Hunnam is best known for his work on FX's crime and motorcycle drama "Sons of Anarchy." Like Chastain, he has prior experience collaborating with del Toro. He will star in next summer's "Pacific Rim," a giant robots versus giant monsters movie from the Mexican director.

This isn't the first time del Toro has been attached to a haunted house film. At one point, he was slated to make "Haunted Mansion," a big screen version of Disney's theme park ride, for the studio, but that project appears to have been delayed. In 2012, he told Collider that he still hoped the film would be made.

"Crimson Peak" will begin shooting in January 2014.   Legendary will produce and help finance the movie.

Chastain and Hunnam are represented by CAA; Stone is represented by WME; and Cumberbatch is represented by UTA in the US and Conway van Gelder Grant in the UK.
