André 3000 Wants Love to Overcome Power in First ‘Jimi: All Is By My Side’ Trailer (Video)

The rapper-turned-actor plays Jimi Hendrix in the biopic written and directed by John Ridley

André Benjamin — a.k.a. Outcast’s André 3000 — talks about love, power and music in the first trailer for Jimi Hendrix biopic, “Jimi: All Is By My Side.”

John Ridley, who won an Oscar earlier this year for writing “12 Years a Slave,” wrote and directed the film, which debuted in the U.S. at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March.

The XLrator Media release takes place between 1966 and 1967 when Hendrix traveled from New York City to make his mark in London’s music scene, culminating in the iconic rock moment that he set his guitar on fire at the Monterey Pop Festival.

“All Is By My Side,” co-starring Hayley AtwellImogen Poots, and Burn Gorman, hits theaters on Sept. 26.
