Jimmy Kimmel and Neil Patrick Harris Cook Up Pre-Oscars Scandal: ‘Get Caught Not Being Gay’ (Video)

“Maybe you get caught with a hot chick. That would be a hell of a thing,” Kimmel jokes to the Academy Awards host

Jimmy Kimmel suggested Neil Patrick Harris create his own shocker to talk about while hosting the Oscars Sunday.

“I’m hoping for a scandal this week,” Harris said during ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday.

“Maybe you get caught not being gay or something like that,” Kimmel said laughing. “Maybe you get caught with a hot chick. That would be a hell of a thing.”

Harris reminded Kimmel why that wouldn’t work.

“I tried that in ‘Gone Girl’ and you know how that ended,” he said.

Harris also said it’s hard to find material for the ceremony after many jokes have been used leading up to the Oscars.

“Anything that Tiny [Fey] and Amy [Poehler] say ‘Ah, damn it, and scratch those off,” Harris said.

The “How I Met Your Mother” actor also discussed toting the line with jokes.

“I’m concerned and always pondering the right thing to do,” Harris admitted. “Do you make jokes at people because they’re funny or because they’re nominated for an Academy Award? But if you don’t do that at all, are you being too saccharine?”

“The audience wants you to be mean, and the people in the room necessarily don’t want you to be mean,” Kimmel said.

The 87th Oscars ceremony be broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Feb. 22.
