JJ Abrams Teases Palpatine’s Return in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’

CCXP: “I can’t wait for you to see how and why that character’s back,” says director JJ Abrams

With less than two weeks to go before the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” hits theaters, JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega hit the main stage at Comic Con Experience Brazil in São Paulo on Saturday to talk about what Lucasfilm says is the final installment in the nine picture saga.

“On the dark side, I can’t wait for people to see the story, I think it’s the most intense story these characters have been through,” said Abrams. “On the light side, it’s the first time we see these group of characters have an adventure together.”

Abrams also talked about the return of Ian McDiarmid’s Emperor Palpatine and added, “That character, as you’ll see, he’s got such extraordinary power. I can’t wait for you to see how and why that character’s back and what it means for these characters.” Emperor Palpatine was revealed in the closing moments of the final trailer as Rey approaches him.

As an additional treat for the CCXP crowd, Abrams premiered an extended clip of a chase scene from the beginning of the movie which was released on Twitter last month.

Additionally, released a video taking a special look at the friendships between the cast of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” which premiered at CCXP. You can watch the embed above.
