Rowling will collaborate on the project, which is expected to premiere in 2014.

The number and length of the episodes will be determined after the creative process on the project has begun, the BBC said Monday.

"The Casual Vacancy," published in September, centers on the seemingly idyllic British town of Pagford, where various conflicts — between the rich and poor, teenagers and parents, and wives and husbands — belie the picture-perfect facade of the town.
