John Legend, Mumford & Sons to Serenade Obama, UK Prime Minister at State Dinner

The White House released the entertainers and menu for Wednesday’s dinner, but not the guest list

While it’s generally customary, even legendary, to keep mum about state dinner details, the White House early Wednesday raised the curtain on who will entertain the leaders of the United States and the United Kingdom Wednesday night.

American singer John Legend and U.K. folksters Mumford & Sons will regale President Obama and the First Lady with song along with their guests U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha on the White House South Lawn after dinner.

Legend has won nine Grammy Awards, while Mumford & Sons have been nominated many times in the last two years.

The theme of the dinner is “America’s backyard.”

According to the White House, while the musicians play, guests will be digesting dinner. Crisped Halibut with Potato Crust, a salad course culled from the First Garden, and a main course featuring Bison Wellington, “a classic English dish given an American twist with the use of buffalo tenderloin,” will be on the menu.

Steamed Lemon Pudding is scheduled for dessert, which includes Newtown Pippin Apples, which are believed to have been developed in Queens, New York, in the early-18th century, and were grown by Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. Per the White House, “Newtown Pippin Apples serve as a symbol of the American-British partnership — the apple was so favored by Queen Victoria that she had the customs duty on them eliminated.”

Still no official word on Wednesday’s guest list — aside from "Homeland" star Damian Lewis, who spilled the beans that he would be among those at the dinner.
