John Oliver cannot believe where we’re at a mere four months into Donald Trump’s presidency. Dubbing this whole library of scandals “Stupid Watergate,” the “Last Week Tonight” host broke down the “absolutely insane” previous seven days of our national nightmare.
The HBO personality addressed the following four questions on Sunday:
“What the f— is going on?”
“How big a deal is this?”
“Where do we go from here?”
And, of course, “Is this real life?”
The answer to that final one was, “Unfortunately, yes.”
In tackling his first few questions, the “Daily Show” alum compared Fox News’ Tucker Carlson’s “nothing to see here” attempt to “a parent whose kids just walked in on them 69-ing.” Then, expanding on a John McCain metaphor, Oliver explained that this administration is like the film “Human Centipede,” “in terms of how much shit is passing through it and how nauseating watching it really is.”
“No matter what, we are in for an agonizingly long period of leaks, allegations and recriminations, all over a presidential campaign to put a man in power who may not entirely want to be there,” Oliver concluded. “Say what you want about Nixon, but at least he wanted the f—ing job.”
