6 of John Oliver’s Best Segments on ‘The Daily Show’ (Videos)

Oliver takes over as host Monday while Jon Stewart makes the movie "Rosewater"

“The Daily Show” is about to get significantly more British.

Comedian John Oliver is officially taking over “The Daily Show” on Monday night as Jon Stewart officially begins his summer hiatus to direct “Rosewater.” It will be Stewart’s longest absence since he began hosting the show in 1999.

That means Oliver – who has been a “Daily Show” correspondent since 2006 – will be sitting in the big boy chair for eight weeks of original episodes (and four weeks of repeats) before Stewart returns on Sept. 3.

The format of “The Daily Show” will not change, however.

“Don’t worry, it’s still going to be everything that you love about ‘The Daily Show,’ just without the thing that you love the most about it,” joked Oliver in a previous statement.

Viewers can expect an uptick in that dry British wit as Oliver does his best to not ruin the franchise (his words, not ours). Oliver wasted no time interrupting Stewart's (temporarily) final sign-off, even going so far as to take the iconic "Moment of Zen" hostage.
