“Now You See Me 2” director Jon M. Chu is in talks to direct “Crazy Rich Asians,” the on-screen adaption of Kevin Kwan’s 2013 book, TheWrap has learned.

The story centers on a group of wealthy Chinese families. When the heir to one of the biggest companies in Asia brings his American-born Chinese girlfriend to Singapore for a wedding, gossip and backstabbing ensues among the clans.

Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and John Penotti are producing, Kwan will executive produce.

Color Force and Ivanhoe Pictures are developing the adaptation. Color Force bought the film rights to the book in 2013.

Chu’s credits include “Jem and the Holograms,” “Step Up 2: The Streets,” “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” In June 2014, TheWrap exclusively reported that Chu will direct “Now You See Me 2,” the sequel to 2013’s “Now You See Me” starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson.

The sequel will hit theaters on June 10. Chu is also attached to direct and produce Paramount’s “Escape.”

Chu is represented by WME and Principato-Young.
