Jon Stewart and Melissa McCarthy Spent a Long Time Talking About Mr. Peanut on ‘The Daily Show’ (Video)

Also, killing Jimmy Carter

It’s always a special treat when an actor veers from the normal press junket talking points when they sit down for a late night interview, and Melissa McCarthy certainly delivered the goods on Thursday night’s edition of “The Daily Show.”

In town to promote her upcoming comedy, “Tammy,” McCarthy made an off-hand remark about slipping in her chair when she sat down across from Jon Stewart. That led to a little anecdote from the “Daily Show” host about former president Jimmy Carter almost falling off the stage, which in turn led to McCarthy talking about a little wind-up Jimmy Carter peanut toy she had as a kid.

Instead of getting back on the promotional track, the conversation dove into the peanut toy rabbit hole, which is much deeper than one might expect; McCarthy seems to know a ton about Mr. Peanut, the Planters spokespeanut.

The conversation never really turned to the movie, either, which makes it a perfect late night interview.
