Jon Stewart allowed himself a temporary reprieve from being depressed over the graphic CIA torture report to glow in the glory of the British Royal Family’s visit to America.
“For the past 48 hours, America has been forced to ask itself some very difficult questions — about the way we forced other people to answer difficult questions,” Stewart summed up the violent interrogation techniques on Thursday.
But then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge emerged on domestic soil, and that brightened up his life — or at least covered up the darkness for a few days.
“They are pretty. They are shiny. And they are more fun to look at than the shame that lives inside of us all,” he remarked of Prince William and Duchess Kate.
After railing against the reenforced gender roles on display — with William talking politics in the Oval Office while Kate stayed behind to perform arts and crafts with children — Stewart shared what is sure to be the most-shared moment from the duo’s stateside visit: The future Queen of England throwing shade at her temporary gift-wrapping boss.
“The Daily Show” even generously kicked off the Internet storm — which was all caused by a supervisor telling Kate and company to “keep wrapping” — providing both a great GIF of the moment and a hilarious still meme.
