Jon Stewart Joining 9/11 Memorial Board

“Daily Show” host pushed for aid for first responders

Jon Stewart, who used "The Daily Show" to push for aid for Sept. 11 first responders, is joining the board of the foundation building New York's 9/11 memorial.

The comedian wil be appointed to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum board on Thursday.

The host of Comedy Central's Emmy-winning "Daily Show" recently used the show to rally support for a federal bill that provided billions to treat the first responders.

"Jon Stewart is an incredibly important figure in today's news media, but he's also a New Yorker who felt — as we all did — the world change in a matter of minutes on September 11," Memorial President Joe Daniels said. "Since then, he has taken a definitive stance on so many issues that relate directly to our organization's mission of commemoration and education. We're honored to welcome him to our Board of Directors."
