Writer Jonah Lehrer, who resigned from the New Yorker after the discovery that he had fabricated Bob Dylan quotes, still has a home at Wired, the tech publication said Wednesday.
Lehrer wrote for Wired prior to taking the New Yorker job last month. But he ran into trouble at the New Yorker almost immediately, first when he was found to have re-used some of his own writing, and then when Tablet Magazine reported that he had made up Dylan quotes in his book "Imagine: How Creativity Works." His publisher pulled the book.
Lehrer spent several years at Wired and wrote the Frontal Cortex blog. He will stay with the publication despite his exit from The New Yorker, a magazine spokesman said Wednesday. Both magazines are Conde Nast publications.
"I can confirm that Jonah was and remains on a features contract for Wired," magazine spokesman Jonathan Hammond told TheWrap. BuzzFeed first reported that Lehrer would remain at Wired.
Hammond said the publication is continuing to vet Lehrer's past work for Wired.com, but that the magazine is satisfied that his print pieces are original and factual.
"We are conducting a review of his work on Wired.com," Hammond said. "His magazine work is fact checked and vetted prior to publication."
At the time of Lehrer's resignation from the New Yorker, Wired editor Chris Anderson retweeted a tweet calling the situation a "tragedy."
