Spyglass’ Jonathan Glickman Named President of MGM Motion Picture Group

Spyglass executive tapped to head newly restructured movie studio, filling in for the departed Mary Parent

What will the newly restructured MGM ultimately look like, now that it's under the leadership of Spyglass chiefs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum? Well, probably a lot like Spyglass.

Spyglass Entertainment president Jonathan Glickman has been named motion-picture group president for newly restructured MGM, it was announced Tuesday.

Glickman assumes the MGM role immediately, filling in for Mary Parent, who left the studio back in October.

The selection of Glickman to run MGM's movie operation hardly seems surprising, given that his Spyglass bosses, Barber and Birnbaum (pictured right, with Glickman in the middle) assumed control of MGM last year, leading it through bankruptcy reorganization.

"Jonathan represents the best in the business," said said Barber and Birnbaum, in a joint statement. "We recognized his talent, taste and acumen when we first hired him 12 years ago at Spyglass and can't wait to continue the journey with him here at MGM."

Added Glickman: "Between MGM's storied history, the promise of the new leadership team and the chance to continue working directly with Gary and Roger, I can't wait to get started."

Glickman’s role at MGM will include the oversight of development and production for all feature films, as well as helping to identify co-financing opportunities with other studios. He will report to Barber and Birnbaum, and will begin forming the motion picture group immediately.

Glickman joined Spyglass Entertainment as president of production in 1998, and in 2003, he was promoted to president of the company.

At Spyglass, along with Barber and Birnbaum, he produced such worldwide hits as "Four Christmases," "27 Dresses," "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy," "The Pacifier," "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "Shanghai Noon."
