Katie Couric to Host 2011 National Magazine Awards

“CBS Evening News” anchor to lead annual gala on May 9

Katie Couric will host the 2011 National Magazine Awards — the magazine world's answer to the Oscars — on May 9 in New York.

The New Yorker leads the awards field with nine nominations. A total of 77 magazines are up for awards this year.

The American Society of Magazine Editors, which governs the so-called Ellies, announced the five finalists for magazine of the year: The Atlantic, Backpacker, Foreign Policy, National Geographic and Wired.

Couric, at the center of swirling talk about her contract and future as the anchor of the "CBS Evening News," will also present an award for creative excellence to author Tom Wolfe.
