Katy Perry is returning to the "MTV Video Music Awards" stage where her pop superstardom was sealed a kiss — this time to perform her newly released single "Roar" live for the first time, the singer and MTV said Monday.
"Roar" is the first single from her upcoming album, "Prism," which will be released Oct. 22. The song itself leaked onto the internet over the weekend. In response, Perry moved the single's release up one day.
Perry performed her hit "I Kissed a Girl" at the 2008 show, just as her star began to rise. The song was nomiated for six VMAs that year, including Best Female Video and Best New Artist. She didn't win that year — but she did go on to win four MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year for her No. 1 hit "Firework."
MTV Hits, MTV's 24-hour music channel (remember when that used to just be MTV?) will play an hour block of Perry's performances and music videos Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m., the network also announced.
Perry's new single quickly became controversial among fans who pointed out how similar it sounds to Sara Bareilles' "Brave." Compare the two here:

Perry's previous debut single, 2010's "California Gurls" ushered in her "Teenage Dream" album. That single debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching No. 1 in its fourth week.
"Gurls" was one of five No. 1 singles from the album, making Perry the only woman in history to have five No. 1 Hot 100 singles from one album, according to Billboard.
The 2013 VMAs will be in Brooklyn Aug. 25 at 9 p.m.
