Kevin Costner Joins Henry Cavill and Diane Lane in ‘Superman’

The “Dances With Wolves” star will play the Man of Steel’s adoptive father, Jonathan Kent

Kevin Costner will be Pa Kent.

The actor is joining Henry Cavill and Diane Lane in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' new Superman movie, TheWrap has confirmed.

Costner will play the role of Jonathan Kent, who raises Superman as Clark Kent on earth.

Lane is playing the Man of Steel's mother, Martha Kent and Cavill has the role of Superman.

Zack Snyder is directing the film, which is set to begin filming in Vancouver this summer.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Costner's most recent role was in 2010's "The Copmpany Men." He is now developing the comedy "The One."

Costner was nominated for the Academy Award for best actor for 1990's "Dances With Wolves." He won best director and the movie, which he produced, won best picture. He also has starred in "The Untouchables," "Field of Dreams," "JFK," "Bull Durham" and many others.

The movie is scheduled for a December 2012 release.
