Kevin Hart: DUI Arrest ‘a Wake Up Call’

"When the cop asked me to take the sobriety test I said 'WHY WASTE OUR TIME…I'M DRUNK MAN'"

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart says his weekend DUI arrest was "a wake up call" and that he needs "to be smarter."

Hart, star of BET's "Real Husbands of Hollywood" and one of the country's most successful standup comics, was arrested early Sunday in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence. He subsequently tweeted about his arrest and detention.

First, he wrote that he did "6,000 push ups & 13,000 sit ups" while locked up," and gave a shout out to his cellmate. He also joked about the arrest.

"When the cop asked me to take the sobriety test I said "WHY WASTE OUR TIME…I'M DRUNK MAN," he wrote.

But he then added: "On some real s— … drinking & driving is not a game or a laughing matter. People have lost lives because of stupid s— this!"

"This is a wake up call for me, I have to be smarter & last night I wasn't….everything happens for a reason…."

Hart has previously joked about his father's struggle with drug addiction.

Los Angeles police said they observed Hart speeding down a freeway at 90 mph in his black Mercedes, weaving across lanes and nearly hitting a gas tanker truck, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement to CNN. When officers pursued him, he took an offramp and pulled over.

He showed visible signs of intoxication, and was booked him into jail and held on a $5,000 bond, police said.

Hart's films include "Think Like a Man" and "The Five-Year Engagement." His television appearances include "Modern Family."
