The ice cream company unveils two new flavors: Lazy Sunday and Gilly's Catastrophic Crunch
Live from Vermont, it's Saturday Night!
Ben and Jerry's celebrated the 40th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live” Thursday by unveiling two new SNL-themed ice cream flavors: Lazy Sunday and Gilly's Catastrophic Crunch.
Lazy Sunday — named after the iconic Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell sketch where they go to Magnolia Bakery to “mack on some cupcakes” — is a vanilla cake batter ice cream base with chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces with a chocolate frosting swirl.
The ice cream maker also announced Gilly's Catastrophic Crunch — based on Kristen Wiig‘s over-the-top elementary school student character. This flavor contains a marshmallow swirl “as frantic and mischievous as the flavor's namesake,” and is made of chocolate and sweet cream ice creams, with caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds and the aforementioned marshmallow swirl.
It's not the first time Ben and Jerry's adapted “SNL” skits into ice cream flavors. They released a “Schweddy Balls” flavor in honor of the Alec Baldwin sketch in 2011 featuring “vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and is loaded with fudge covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls.” However, many grocery stores refused to carry it after an outcry from conservative groups.
The flavors will be available immediately at your nearest Ben and Jerry's scoop shop.
