Calm down, everybody; KTLA meteorologist Liberte Chan is not being oppressed into modest clothing by her station overlords.

Chan has weighed in on an on-air incident this weekend that caused quite the storm on the Internet, after she was handed a sweater to cover up with while giving her weather report.

According to Chan, the brass at KTLA had nothing to do with the request for her to augment her little black dress with a concealing grey sweater.

Chan did acknowledge that her pre-sweater outfit did spark “a slew of negative emails from viewers saying the dress was inappropriate for air” during the Saturday newscast.

In a post on her blog, Chan went on to explain that she was merely going along with her co-anchor’s joke, after he handed her a sweater and informed her, “We’re getting a lot of emails.” She stressed that the station itself was not involved in the wardrobe decision.

“For the record, I was not ordered by KTLA to put on the sweater. I was simply playing along with my co-anchor’s joke, and if you’ve ever watched the morning show, you know we poke fun at each other all the time,” Chan clarified.

She added, “My bosses did not order me to put on the cardigan, it was a spontaneous moment. I truly love my job, I like my bosses and enjoy working with my coworkers. Since talking to my team, I want our viewers to know it was never our intention to offend anyone. We are friends on and off the air and if you watch our newscast, you know that.”

After video of Chan being handed a sweater to cover up went viral, Twitter exploded, as it tends to do, with outrage, as users tossed out words like “deplorable” and “disgusting,” and suggested that the station owes Chan an apology.

So put down the pitchforks and torches, Internet; KTLA had nothing to do with it.

Unless there’s a different kind of coverup altogether happening now. Hmmm….
