Lady Gaga hated the “shallowness” that came with being a pop star, and wanted to quit music a few years ago because she felt her creativity was being compromised in order to make other people money.

“I don’t like being used to make people money,” the singer-turned-actress said in a new video, released on Facebook. “I feel sad when I’m overworked and that I just become a money-making machine and that my passion and creativity take a back seat, that makes me unhappy.”

Gaga, who now appears on FX’s “American Horror Story: Hotel,” also continued to talk about the negative parts about being a musician — interacting with her fans on a “shallow” level.

“Why are you unhappy?” she added. “Why is it that you want to quit music? I don’t like wasting my time spending days just shaking people’s hand, smiling and taking selfies. It feels shallow.”

In an attempt to get back to the musician she enjoyed being, Gaga starting say no. She said no to taking pictures, no to going to certain events, and no to things she didn’t stand for.

“Slowly but surely, I remembered who I am,” the singer continued. “And then you go home and you look in the mirror and you’re like, yes! I can go to bed with you every night. That person, I know that person, that person has balls, that person has integrity, that person has an opinion.”
