Lake Bell to Join Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan in Action-Thriller ‘The Coup’

John Erick Dowdle is directing the long-gestating project for Bold Films

Hot off her well-reviewed directorial debut “In a World … ,” Lake Bell has signed on to join Owen Wilson in Bold Films’ action-thriller “The Coup,” an individual familiar with the long-gestating project has told TheWrap.

John Erick Dowdle (“Devil”) is directing from a script he wrote with brother Drew Dowdle.

Pierce Brosnan co-stars in the movie, which follows an American family who find themselves caught in the middle of a violent revolution in Southeast Asia. They’re forced to fight for their survival when a rebel leader begins hunting them.

Bell wrote, directed, produced and starred in “In a World … ,” a charming indie comedy that won the screenwriting award at Sundance earlier this year. She’s currently developing a follow-up feature titled “What’s the Point?”

As an actress, Bell will soon be seen alongside Jon Hamm in Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm.” She’s repped by UTA and the Burstein Company.
