John Oliver Blasts ‘Insulting’ US Coverage of London Terror Attack

“To imply that [the U.K.] is somehow weak enough to be brought to its knees … is insulting,” HBO hosts says

HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver has slammed American media coverage of the most recent terror attacks in London for implying “three monumental a–holes” can bring the U.K. “to its knees.”

Oliver played a montage of U.S. television media personalities saying London was “under siege” and “reeling” before laying into his argument.

“Ok, here’s the thing, for the record, in no way is Britain under siege. Upset? Yes. Pissed off? Of you f—ing bet it’s pissed off. But to say ‘it’s under siege,’ and that its people are reeling is to imply that it’s somehow weak enough to be brought to its knees by three monumental a–holes,” Oliver said. “That, as an idea, is insulting.”

Oliver continued: “British people were so irritated by headlines… The British people are never going to let terror change their way of life.”

He also showed a series of sarcastic tweets showcasing things that actually concern British people, such as making tea in the microwave. Oliver also highlighted a man who refused to put down his pint of beer when escaping the terror attack, and played an interview with another man who declared that he wouldn’t let terrorists change his lifestyle.

Oliver then moved on and said Russian president Vladimir Putin is “perhaps the biggest threat to the United States after the President of the United States.”
