Latest ‘Constantine’ Trailer Promises Larger DC Universe (Video)

Aside from the usual demons and ghostly spirits, the helmet of Dr. Fate is shown, indicating greater DC Universe connections

Marvel is building a cinematic universe on the big and small screens. Could DC be doing the same? In the latest trailer for NBC’s “Constantine,” based on the DC/Vertigo series “Hellblazer,” there is a promise of a greater universe that will be familiar to fans of the DC Comics Universe.

In one quick scene, the helmet of Fate is shown, which implies the presence of Dr. Fate. And where Dr. Fate exists, so could there be others from the magical side of the DC Universe?

With “Arrow” and “The Flash” over on The CW, this could be a logical divide for the cinematic DC Universe. It’s always difficult to throw magic into the mix when dealing with more traditional superhero fare, but the world of “Constantine” is one fraught with magical trappings.

Thus, you can have things like a mystical helmet possessed by the spirit of an ancient Egyptian wizard. After all, Constantine is a magician detective.

This could open the door for more mystical DC characters like The Spectre, The Phantom Stranger, Madame Xanadu, or the rhyming demon Etrigan, to make appearances on “Constantine.” Meanwhile, The CW could stick with the more traditional superhero guest stars, like Deathstroke and the Suicide Squad on “Arrow.”
