The “30 Rock” actor guest stars on Wednesday’s episode of the NBC procedural as a fast-talking journalist

Alec Baldwin has gotten into his fair share of scuffles with the media and now he gets to play one on Wednesday’s episode of NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU.”

The “30 Rock” actor guest stars as Jimmy MacArthur, a controversial New York newspaper columnist who arrives to do a feature on Benson (Mariska Hargitay, who makes her directorial debut with this episode). He will later question the SVU squad’s motives during the investigation of a potential hate crime/rape case.

In a new preview from Wednesday’s episode, Baldwin’s Jimmy is holding court at the station. When Benson arrives to question his motives, he surprises her with the news that he’s there to do a story on her.

“It was so much fun having Mariska direct that and having Alec Baldwin on-set,” “SVU” star Kelli Giddish told TheWrap. “It’s so great to see such a great actor at work. And it was great to see our family here, the cast and crew, rally around our leading lady. They put together a really solid episode.”
