If true she failed her drug test, the troubled star could find herself back behind bars for 30 days

Updated, Friday 10 p.m.:

Even before authorities confirmed that Lindsay Lohan failed her drug test last week, the actress tweeted this on Friday night: "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result."

Then: "This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I'm prepared to face the consequences."

And later: "I am a work in progress, just as anyone else. I am keeping my faith, and I am hopeful….Thank you all!!!

Has Lindsay Lohan blown her comeback and freedom already?

According to TMZ, the actress, who just got out of rehab on Aug. 24, last week  “failed a drug test in her criminal case.” If true, that could see Lohan back behind bars for 30 days.

Claiming that the substance in question was cocaine, the site says “sources close to Lindsay tell us she is saying it's not true — insisting she has not failed, but we have confirmed it is indeed true.”

E! Online and People magazine also say they have confirmed the story. And while not confirming the report of drug use, the L.A. Times says that the “authorities are investigating allegations” that Lohan failed her test.

That’s news to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office.

“We have seen no official report and no court hearing is scheduled,” L.A. district attorney spokesperson Sandi Gibbons told TheWrap. Shawn Chapman Holley, Lohan’s lawyer, did not immediately respond to request for comment.

At an Aug. 25 hearing Judge Elden Fox ruled that as a condition of her revised probation, the actress must submit to two random drug tests a week. Fox also ruled that Lohan, whose anti-booze cameo on the MTV Video Awards was one of the highlights of the show, must attend psychotherapy sessions four times a week, as well as go to 12-step programs five times a week and participate in various other therapeutic outpatient sessions.

Lindsay’s next scheduled probation review hearing date before the court is Nov. 1.

However, if the latest reports turn out to be true, that date might get very quickly moved up. The judge made it very clear that if Lohan, who was sentenced to jail time plus court order in-patient rehab at UCLA earlier this summer for previous probation violations stemming from two 2007 DUI incidents, was to miss or fail a single substance abuse test, it would constitute a violation of her probation and result in 30 days in the L.A. County Jail.
