Lohan Lawyer Shapiro Quits Hours Before Sentencing

Defender drops actress on eve of scheduled surrender

Lindsay Lohan’s latest lawyer, Robert Shapiro, has quit, hours before the actress was due to surrender to authorities and begin her 90-day jail term.

According to several reports, Shapiro, who agreed to take Lohan late last week, dropped the case on Monday after meeting with Lohan and Judge Marsha Revel.

The 24-year old actress was scheduled to surrender to authorities in Beverly Hills Tuesday morning to begin her 90-day jail sentence for probation violations. Once in custody, she will  travel to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, for her actual incarceration

Shapiro did not comment on his decision to drop Lohan. Last week, Shapiro — best known for defending O.J. Simpson in his 1994 murder trial — said he would only represent Lohan if she agreed to go to jail and not appeal her sentence.

"I have agreed to represent Ms. Lohan on the condition that she complies with all of the terms of her probation,” Shapiro said in a statement Friday, “including a requirement of jail time that was imposed by Judge Marsha Revel.”

Lindsay’s longtime lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley quit the actress’ case on July 8, as reports of prescription drug abuse emerged.

For the past week, Lohan has been staying at Pickford Lofts, a West Hollywood sober-living facility run by Shapiro.

Late Monday, she tweeted: "The only 'bookings' that I'm familiar with are Disney films, never thought that I'd be 'booking' into jail … eeeks."

With prison over crowding and the non-violent nature of her crime, which stems from a 2007 DUI and a cocaine and booze fuelled car chase through L.A., Lohan will probably on serve about 22 days or 25 percent of her sentence behind bars.

After she is released, she has been court-ordered to enter a 90-day rehab in-patient program within two days of getting out of jail.
