The Lollapalooza music festival celebrates its 20th anniversary in Chicago's Grant Park this weekend, with organizers expecting the alternative music festival, originally started by Jane's Addiction front man Perry Ferrell, to draw its biggest crowd ever.
The festival, which drew in 90,000 concert goers for its opening night Friday — prompting a need for an expansion from 80 to 115 acres — is expecting a total attendance of about 270,000.
Organizers also announced and expansion to their South American plans — April dates for a 2012 festival in San Paolo, Brazil.
The festival will also be making its 2nd-annual return to Chile at the end of March 2012.
“This is a landmark festival with an established brand, and it will help us set a footprint in music,” said Leo Ganem, executive for Brazilian promoting agency Geo Events in a statement.
The agency is partnering with Texas-based C3 Presents and Los Angeles talent agency William Morris Endeavor to create a Sao Paolo “Lolla."
