“Moonlight” star Mahershala Ali is in talks to join Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum in “Triple Frontier,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

J.C. Chandor is directing, while Mark Boal wrote the script. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment are producing alongside Boal.

“Triple Frontier” will be set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where two rivers meet. That zone is difficult to monitor, making it a popular haven for organized crime.

The project has been around since 2009. The thriller will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Ali has had a strong year. He starred in Oscar contenders “Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures,” and also appeared in Netflix’s “Luke Cage.” He will also star in the Sundance breakout “Roxanne Roxanne” and is currently shooting Robert Rodriguez’s “Alita: Battle Angel.”

He is represented by WME, Anonymous Content and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
