James Cameron and Mark Burnett Team for Discovery’s ‘Robogeddon’

Series from “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett and “Avatar” director James Cameron will feature battling robots

James Cameron and Mark Burnett are joining forces for a new series called "Robogeddon," Discovery announced at its up-front presentation Thursday. The series from Oscar-winning director Cameron and reality TV mastermind Burnett will feature mechanical robots fighting, as on the Comedy Central show "BattleBots."

Engineer Donald Hutson, the two-time Super Heavyweight Champion of "BattleBots" who is also competing on "Robogeddon," was on hand to show off his handiwork (pictured).

That isn't the only upcoming Discovery series that Burnett will be taking part in. The "Survivor" producer, who produced "Sarah Palin's Alaska," will once again explore the state for a new series on Discovery.

Announced at Discovery Communications' upfront presentation this week, "Mark Burnett's Alaska" will follow Burnett's quest to chronicle "the colorful people, amazing history and unforgettable places that make Alaska a world apart."

A trio of other new Discovery series were also announced including "Fast and Loud," featuring self-professed "petrol-sexual" Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufmann of the Gas Monkey Garage as they search for old rust-buckets to buy on the cheap and refurbish for sale.

Heaps of rust are transformed into gleaming road warriors and sold to the top bidder.

A slew of new series for Discovery's sister station TLC were also announced, including the Tori Spelling-hosted competition "Craft Wars"; "Bates Family Series,'' which follows a family as they pursue a back-to-basics lifestyle in Tennessee after they welcome their 19th child; and "Breaking Amish," which follows a group of young people as they decide whether they'll join the Amish faith or pursue a more modern lifestyle in the big city.

Discovery's Animal Planet will have a beastly slate of its own new series. "Glory Hounds" will follow the heroic path of military dogs, while "Rhino Wars" will chronicle the efforts of a group of game reserves to stem the carnage caused by rhino poachers in South Africa, with the help of former U.S. Special Forces operatives. There's also "Top Hooker" which — perhaps to the disappointment of some — will splits "10 expert fishers into two teams and pits them head to head in a series of insane, never-before-seen fishing challenges."

There are twists and turns around every corner in ID’s new series COLD CASE. Each episode invites viewers on an emotional journey between past and present as unsolved homicides are reopened. WHO THE BLEEP… begs the question: how well can you really know someone?

MURDER IN PARADISE (wt)
It’s a vacation in paradise, or is it? ID’s new series recounts stories of happy couples who go on dream vacations that end in violence. Only one of them comes back alive, and it’s never an accident. Could these unwitting victims have been murdered by the last person in the world they’d expect to do them harm? MURDER IN PARADISE is a mystery series that aims to uncover whether these victims were the random targets of a brutal stranger or the focused objects of premeditated evil.

Meanwhile, Discovery Fit & Health also has a couple of new offerings. "High School Moms" will explore a Colorado high school "devoted exclusively to pregnant girls and teen moms," while "If They Were My Kids" will find sibings with radically different parenting styles swapping kids in order to determine whose method of child-rearing is superior.
