Could Ed Grimley be returning to "Saturday Night Live" to give "SNL" fans a treat this Christmas?

Martin Short, the former "Saturday Night Live" cast member who played pointy-haired, hyper-manic Pat Sajak worshiper Grimley on the late-night comedy institution, will return to the SNL stage to host "Saturday Night Live"'s Christmas show, which airs Dec. 15, NBC said Tuesday.
Short's musical guest will be Paul McCartney, continuing SNL's tradition of showcasing obscure but promising musical talent on its stage.
Short, an alum of "SCTV," migrated to "Saturday Night Live" in 1984, playing various characters. He hosted the show in 1996, and had an uncredited appearance as his character Jiminy Glick in a 2005 episode.
McCartney, of course, has appeared on "SNL" before, notably as the interview subject of a fawning Chris Farley.
More recently, Short has had guest runs on "Weeds" and "Damages," and provides the voice of the title character on the animated series "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!"
Until Dec. 15, enjoy some vintage Grimley as he practices his triangle chops.
