Matt Lauer Questions Anne Hathaway About Wardrobe Malfunction: ‘We’ve Seen a Lot of You Lately’ (Video)

"Today" host Matt Lauer quickly asked "Les Miserables" star Anne Hathaway about embarrassing tabloid photo

Never let it be said that Matt Lauer doesn't ask the hard questions.

ScreenshotThe "Today" host interviewed "Les Miserables" star Anne Hathaway Wednesday morning, a day after the actress accidentally exposed herself while stepping out of her SUV at a New York premiere of the film.

"Anne Hathaway, good morning, nice to see you," Lauer said. "Seen a lot of you lately."

"Sorry about that," Hathaway said. "I'd be happy to stay home, but the film."

Lauer stepped up his questioning.

"Let's just get it out of the way," Lauer continued. "You had a little wardrobe malfunction the other night. What's the lesson learned from something like that, other than that you keep smiling, which you'll always do."

Hathaway called it an "unfortunate incident," and made a very skillful pivot to the subject of her film.

"I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to 'Les Mis,' because that's what the character [Fantine] is," she said. "She is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net so yeah—let's get back to 'Les Miz.'"
