Matthew McConaughey has signed on for “The Beach Bum,” the latest film from “Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine, according to multiple media reports.

The “Dallas Buyers Club” Oscar winner will star as Moondog, a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large.

Producer John Josher called “The Beach Bum” “the perfect movie for our dark and serious time” — adding that Korine has written “a refreshingly original, irreverent, and hilarious stoner comedy that only he could create.”

Korine hasn’t released a film since 2012’s “Spring Breakers,” which featured James Franco as a Florida gangster and was a hit for specialty distributor A24. McConaughey currently has The Weinstein Company’s “Gold” in theaters. He next stars in “The Dark Tower,” out July 28.
Principal photography on “The Beach Bum” is set to begin in July.
