‘Max Steel’ Gets Ready to Save the World in First US Trailer (Video)

Open Road will release the superhero movie on Oct. 14

In a new trailer for “Max Steel,” a teenager’s life is turned upside down when he discovers his body produces energy he can’t control.

Ben Winchell (“Finding Carter”) plays 16-year-old Max McGrath, who teams up with an extraterrestrial robot named Steel. Together, they form the film’s eponymous superhero.

“Your father believed he could save the world,” says the voiceover. “It’s up to you now, Max.”

“Silicon Valley” actor Josh Brenner voices Steel, while the rest of the cast includes Andy Garcia, Maria Bello and Ana Villafane.

“Max of Steel” is based on the popular superhero property from Mattel, which is producing with Dolphin Films.

The film is written by Christopher Yost and directed by Stewart Hendler. Julia Pistor, who is no stranger to family entertainment, is producing for Mattel’s Playground Productions.

“It’s a family, coming-of-age superhero movie with some comedy elements,” Hendler told Yahoo Movies on Wednesday. “One of the things that I really love about the movie is the relationship between Max and Steel, the little floating alien dude. It has a buddy comedy vibe to it. And that’s my favorite part of the film, the heart and the banter of the film. But ultimately it’s an origin story for this Mattel brand that is about a superhero that is literally the combination of an alien and a teenager. So we explain the roots of that.”

The Open Road film will open in theaters on Oct. 14.
