After 17 years, Conan O’Brien’s bandleader is moving on

max weinbergAfter 17 years as Conan O'Brien's bandleader, Max Weinberg is moving on.

Weinberg and O'Brien have decided to mutually part ways with the debut of O'Brien's new TBS talk show, O'Brien said in a statement released by his reps Monday.

Weinberg made his debut when O'Brien first took over NBC's "Late Night" in 1993, and later joined him on "The Tonight Show."

"Max has been a huge part of my life for the past 17 years and he is an incredible band leader and musician. I hope he can find time to stop by the new show, sit in with the band, and pretend to find my monologue funny," O'Brien said in a statement on Monday.

"Conan and I met on a New York City street corner in the spring of 1993 and my association with Conan, his staff, and crew has been a deeply rewarding experience for me," Weinberg said.

"Conan" debuts Nov. 8 at 11 p.m. on TBS.
