A trial opening in downtown Los Angeles could change the lucrative Spanish-language TV market in the US. As jury selection got underway on Tuesday in U.S. district court, an attorney for Televisa said the TV behemoth Univision breached its contract with Grupo Televisa by failing to pay the supplier over $100 million in royalties. The trial has been postponed four times. If Televisa wins the case, the programmer will be able to renegotiate its terms with Univision, owned by private equity firms and billionaire Haim Saban, who attended the trial on Tuesday. Univision has 80% of the prime time slots on three U.S. networks with Televisa content.
