President-elect Barack Obama has chosen his former classmate from Harvard Law School, Julius Genachowski, to lead the Federal Communications Commission, a Democratic source told Reuters on Monday. Genachowski is a technology executive who has held positions at IAC/InterActiveCorp and served as chief counsel for former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt under former President Bill Clinton. If Genachowski is confirmed by the Senate, one of his first challenges will be making sure a congressionally mandated conversion to digital television on February 17 goes according to plan, though Obama's administration has already expressed a desire to postpone the transition.
