Last Thursday night, Depeche Mode played a free concert on Hollywood Boulevard. They opened with “Wrong,” the first single off their latest album, "Sounds of the Universe," and the set included “Personal Jesus," “Enjoy The Silence” and closed with “Never Let Me Down Again.” The performance aired on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and Hollywood Boulevard was shut down for over 24 hours with about 12,000 fans in attendance. The band has long had a very loyal fan base in Southern California, including a huge concert at the Rose Bowl in 1988, followed by the near riot at a Beverly Connection record store in 1990, when it promoted the "Violator" release with an in store appearance and 15,000 fans swamped the place.
