Atlantic Media, owner of The Atlantic, National Journal and Nextgov, has partnered with Mashable to run some of Atlantic’s “technology-focused content” on Mashable in exchange for “brand exposure.”
Mashable, a site focused on social media and other emerging platforms, has mushroomed in the past few years, now reaching an audience of close to 10 million people worldwide, according to Quantcast.
"The Atlantic, National Journal, and Nextgov each in their own distinctive way explore the intersection of technology with our culture, our politics, and our government," Atlantic Media Company President Justin B. Smith said in a statement. "We're excited to share that exploration with Mashable's audience, one of the most tech-savvy and engaged there is."
Mashable’s “Publisher’s Platform” will publish content from The Atlantic, National Journal and Nextgov. In return, it will permit immediate sharing on social networks and re-direct traffic to the Atlantic through related links.
The Atlantic has refocused its editorial efforts on the digital side, from its successful "Atlantic Wire" aggregation site to its digital-first initiative with the National Journal.
Mashable promises a younger, social media-savvy audience. That has made it a target for acquisition, with recent reports that CNN would buy the company for $200 million. Mashable CEO Pete Cashmore has denied those reports.
