Bill O’Reilly, Jon Stewart to Debate Common Monday on Fox News

“Daily Show” host accepts “battle” challenge, will appear on Monday’s “Factor”

On Thursday, Bill O'Reilly challenged Jon Stewart to a debate about the "controversy" surrounding Common's appearance at the White House — and it appears O'Reilly is going to get his wish.

Stewart has accepted O'Reilly's invitation and will appear on Fox News' "Factor" on Monday.

Set your DVRs — "battles" like these are increasingly rare in the cable news game.

The last time Stewart appeared on O'Reilly's show, in September, it drew big ratings for Fox.

If you missed it, here's some background on the latest beef between the two talking heads.

On Wednesday, in a 10-plus minute "Daily Show" segment — brilliantly dubbed "Tone Def Poetry Jam" — Stewart ripped Fox News for creating a controversy over Common's appearance at the White House to fill air time. (As Stewart pointed out, Common is one of the least controversial figures in hip-hop.)

On Thursday, O'Reilly defended the network's beef with Common, challenging Stewart to debate the issue on air.

"I would like to debate you about the Common situation," O'Reilly said. "Because it's important."

Earlier in the segment, O'Reilly clarified his stance on the rap game. "I want to make one thing very clear," he said. "On 'The Factor' we're not objecting to Common's style. We fought the good fight years ago against gangsta rappers. He's not a gangsta rapper. But now society has generally accepted all rappers. What we object to is Common is sticking up for two convicted police killers."

If you're looking for "8 Mile"-style fireworks on Monday, don't necessarily get your hopes up: both of Stewart's appearances on O'Reilly's Fox News show last year were not as contentious or adversarial as one would've hope for.

And Stewart recently praised O'Reilly for standing up to Donald Trump, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and and the rest of the birther movement.
