Is Chris Bevilacqua, head of CAA’s Sports Media Venture, leaving the agency to launch his own shop?

Not necessarily, he says.

A report in Sports Business Journal says Bevilacqua has been raising capital for his own media consulting business and is looking for office space in New York.

But he tells The Wrap, "I wouldn't believe everything you read."

And left it at that.

Sports Business Journal says the new company, Bevilacqua Media Co., will be a separate entity from CAA. According to the report, Bevilacqua will continue to consult with CAA to fulfill client obligations before going independent. (The International Olympic Committee, the NCAA's Pac 10 conference, the San Diego Padres baseball franchise and the NHL are among Bevilacqua's current and/or former CAA clients.)

Bevilacqua, who launched and then sold CSTV to CBS for $325 million in 2005, joined CAA in 2008 after a stint at SCP Worldwide. He launched Sports Media Venture with CAA and Evolution Media Capital.

A CAA rep did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday.
