Sony Pictures Classics has acquired U.S. rights to David Cronenberg’s "A Dangerous Method" from Hanway Films, the studio announced on Thursday.

The biopic of influential psychiatrist Carl Jung, reunites Cronenberg with his "A History of Violence" muse Viggo Mortenson.

It also stars Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender, and Vincent Cassel. Christopher Hampton ("Atonement") adapted the screenplay from his own play.

The film is currently in post-production. Sony did not say when the film would be released, but given the star-wattage, a Fall Oscar push seems likely.

In the film, Dr. Jung (Fassbender) takes the unbalanced yet beautiful Sabina Spielrein (Knightley) as his patient, who he treats with methods developed by his mentor, Sigmund Freud (Mortenson). Both men fall under Sabina’s spell.
