April, 12, 2013 10:47 am | Comments On #Augusta National, Bob Costas, CBS, CBS Sports, Masters, Media, sports, Television, The MastersBob Costas has slammed CBS Sports' television coverage of the Masters golf tournament, saying the network has never acknowledged the “history of racism and sexism” by the Augusta National Golf Club, the private club that runs the historic tournament.
Augusta National, which was established in 1933, did not admit its first black member until 1990, and it did not invite a woman to join until 2012, despite organized protests from the National Council of Women’s Organizations and pickets outside the grounds of the event.
In 2003 and 2004, it required CBS to broadcast the Masters commercial-free to stave off the threat of boycotts directed at the tournament...

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which presents the annual Primetime Emmy Awards, has posted its 2012-2013 rules on its website, detailing a few changes in the Emmy landscape that affect the supporting categories in the movie or miniseries genre, stunt coordinators and interactive content.
The biggest change is one that was announced last May: The Emmys are downsizing the miniseries-or-movie acting categories, combining the lead and supporting actor and actress awards.
The move, the Television Academy’s senior vice president...

April, 11, 2013 12:16 pm | Comments On #Academy Awards, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Awards, oscars, Star WarsThe Academy has tweeted a picture of a model of its upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures – and from the looks of things, they’re building a “Star Wars” Death Star adjacent to the former May Company building in the Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles.
And then they’re surrounding their AMPAS Death Star with giant lollipops.
This has been a week of news about the museum, which is expected to open in early 2017. The Academy is conducting a fundraising campaign co-chaired by Tom Hanks and Annette Bening, and said it is more than halfway to its goal of raising $300 million for the project.
On Monday, it announced that the David Geffen Foundation has given...
With 'To the Wonder,' Has Terrence Malick Gotten Too Terrence Malicky?
April, 11, 2013 11:41 am | Comments On #Ben Affleck, independent film, indies, Javier Bardem, Jessica Chastain, Movies, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, Roger Ebert, Terrence Malick, The Tree of Life, to the wonderTerrence Malick’s “To the Wonder” is a film that may go down in history, but not because it’s another masterpiece from the man who made “Badlands,” “Days of Heaven,” “The Thin Red Line” and “The Tree of Life.”
Instead, “To the Wonder,” which opens in a limited release and on VOD on Friday, seems likely to be known because it was the last movie Roger Ebert ever reviewed, in a kind and thoughtful notice that was posted two days after Ebert’s death last week.
But as a movie itself, the film seems unlikely to end up a Best Picture nominee the way “The Tree of Life” was two years ago, and unlikely to earn the $36...
