Editor & Publisher may not be dead quite yet.

Responding to “overwhelming read and advertiser demand,” the 108-year-old trade, which Nielsen announced last week it would close, will publish a January issue and continue publishing online until January 1.

Editor-in-chief Greg Mitchell made the announcement late Monday on the E&P Web site, and hinted at the possibility of an 11th hour deal to save the publication.

“A number of outside companies and individuals have expressed interest in possibly keeping E&P going,” the magazine said, “so stay tuned.”

One of those already said to have expressed interest: Alan Meckler, CEO WebMediaBrands and owner of Mediabistro, who said on Thursday that he had offered to "take the publication off Nielsen's hands" several months ago and "pay nothing," but that the company spurned his offer, "claiming it could receive 'millions' for the title."
