Ted Sarandos has led content acquisition for Netflix since 2000. With more than 20 years experience in home entertainment, Sarandos is recognized as an innovator in film acquisition and distribution. Sarandos established Netflix as a successful film distributor while it grew to 9.4 million subscribers in 2008. During his tenure, the Netflix library increased from 2,000 to 100,000 DVDs and more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes available to watch instantly. Sarandos has enabled Netflix to provide the broadest variety of films for consumers as well as offer an alternate distribution method for smaller and independent films that might not otherwise be seen. Sarandos has been included in Variety's "Global 50," a list of the 50 most influential people in independent film distribution, as well as The Hollywood Reporter's "Indie Power 50."
