Red Hour Films is reviving the cult 90s film for television
Ben Stiller is reaching back two decades for a new comedy project at NBC.
His Red Hour Films is producing a television series pilot of 1994 cult movie, "Reality Bites," a representative for the production company tells TheWrap.
The film's writer, Helen Childress, will write the pilot about recent college graduate Lelaina Pierce (originally played by Winona Ryder) as she begins her professional life and films her Gen-X slacker friends.
Universal Television will co-produce with Red Hour and Michael Shamber and Stacey Scher's Double Feature films (which also produced the original film). Stiller, Debbie Liebling, and Stuart Cornfeld of Red Hour will executive produce with Childress, Shamberg and Sher.
Stiller directed and appeared in the movie "Reality Bites." Aside from Ryder, it also starred Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn.
Red Hour Films is also producing a comedy pilot for Comedy Central called "Big Time In Hollywood, FL," as well as the stand-up series, "The Meltdown With Jonah And Kumail." It's sketch series with Bob Odenkirk, "The Birthday Boys," will premiere on Oct. 18 on IFC.
